Raising CO Kids Guide

Check the Safety of a Program

Licensed child care programs are inspected by state of Colorado licensing authorities every year. These reports, as well as each program's licensing history, are available in the detailed results pages of our search tool. These reports give parents a clear picture of how each program supports children's health and safety. These reports are a great tool to help you make this important decision.

What to Look for in a Monitoring Report

  • When reviewing a program's monitoring reports, it's important to remember that some violations are serious. Other violations are less serious (e.g., an administrative mistake like not having a training certificate in a staff member's file). It's important to understand what to look for in a monitoring report.

  • If you are looking for care for an infant, make sure the program doesn't have any violations related to safe sleep. If you are looking for care for a toddler, adult-child ratios are very important. A violation related to supervision would be serious.

  • If you need help understanding a program or have questions, contact the Department of Early Childhood Public File Review at 1-303-866-6029. If you have concerns about a child care program or would like to report a licensing violation, please call the child care complaint line at 1-800-799-5876.
