Moving From One County to Another

Families no longer have to report a change in residence within their 12-month eligibility period. You are required to apply in your new county of residence at your redetermination date (at the end of your 12 months). If you move across counties during your 12-month eligibility period, your child care benefits will remain intact. However, if you change providers as part of your move, your county may not have an active fiscal agreement with that provider. Please plan to work with your county several weeks before you move if you intend to switch providers to allow time for the county to establish a fiscal agreement with the provider of your choice.
  • Universal Preschool Colorado (UPK). Universal Preschool Colorado is a state-funded program administered by the Colorado Department of Early Childhood. All children in the year before they are eligible for kindergarten, and qualifying 3-year-olds, are eligible to participate.
  • Denver Preschool Program (DPP). The Denver Preschool Program helps eligible Denver families pay for high-quality preschool. To qualify, families must reside in the City and County of Denver and have a four-year old child enrolled at a participating program and in their last year of preschool before kindergarten.
  • Head Start/Early Head Start Program. Head Start promotes school readiness for children from low-income families. From birth to age five, Head Start provides children a learning environment that enhances their cognitive, social, and emotional development.
Universal Preschool (UPK) Colorado
Universal Preschool (UPK) Colorado allows families to choose the right setting for their child, whether it is in a licensed community-based, school-based or home-based preschool setting. Families of children in the year before they are eligible for kindergarten, and qualifying 3-year-olds, are able to apply for UPK Colorado.
