As a parent or caregiver, you make important decisions that affect your children every day. Many factors go into your decision about where to send your child for child care or school, and immunization rates may be a consideration for your family. Child care centers and schools with low immunization rates may put your child at increased risk for outbreaks of vaccine-preventable disease. The Colorado Immunization Branch developed a B2S Immunization Toolkit to support communication between child care programs and caregivers of enrolled students.
Keeping children up-to-date on vaccinations during the pandemic is critical to keeping our children and communities healthy. The collection of immunization records and exemptions from enrolled students is required by the Colorado Board of Health. This includes students who are participating in school remotely due to the pandemic as well as those who attend in-person.
Colorado Board of Health rule 6 CCR 1009-2 requires public, private, and parochial schools that enroll students in K-12th grade, as well as preschools, child care centers, and Head Starts licensed for 10 or more children, to report immunization and exemption data to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) annually.
